Kitchen Fire Safety Tips
Never leave cooking unattended
Keep the area around the stove clean and uncluttered
Don't cook if you are drousy or intoxicated
Keep pot handles turned inward toward the stove
Keep children and pets away
If oil should catch fire, cover the pan with a lid to smother it
Electrical Safety Tips
Keep electrical cords out of high traffic areas
Don't pinch cords behind furniture
Don't stretch cords tightly around corners
Check all cords for fraying before using
Do not tape or splice cords together
Don't overload sockets
Don't "Daisychain" multiplug outlets together
Smoke Detectors
Install smoke detector's on every floor of the house
Place detector's near or in all sleeping area's
Test detector's weekly and change batteries bi-annualy
Be sure everyone in the house can hear the alarm, even with appliances such as A/C on
Don't install detector's where cooking fumes, steam, or auto exhaust may set off false alarms
Never "Borrow" a battery from your smoke detector
Children's Fire Safety Tips
Show children how to crawl low on the floor, under the smoke, in the event of a fire
Keep matches or lighters in a secure drawer or cabinet
Teach children to get out quickly, and STAY OUT!
Practice a home fire escape plan, and designate a meeting point
Teach children the nature of fire: Hot, Fast, Dark, and Deadly
Teach children not to hide from Firefighters
Supervise young children closely
Familiarize children with the sound of a smoke detector
Demonstrate to children how to "Stop, Drop & Roll" if thier clothes catch fire
Keep children away from space heaters or fireplaces
Bring your children to thier local fire station
